Gardening & Environmental Care to the fore this spring!

2nd & 3rd class did some planting of seeds today. They chose a variety of vegetables and herbs. These will be started off in the classroom and will be transplanted to the school poly tunnel when they are ready. As we have now started working towards our first green flag, they reused pots and trays that were used last year. Plants will be watered using water from the rainwater collection tank.

First class have also been very busy very since the start of spring. They are reusing as much as possible in order to sustain the environment. All pupils are learning that growing their own produce means reducing pollutants generated by transporting them to local supermarkets.

On March 31st, the whole school community participated in the Team Limerick Cleanup. As stated on the Team Limerick Cleanup website, the mission and vision of TLC is "to foster and build relationships with the community, protect the environment and instill a sense of pride in the people of Limerick." As part of the Bruree/Rockhill community, it is important that the pupils have a sense of pride in the school grounds as well as the surrounding area. The pupils, along with their teachers in 5th & 6th class cleaned and picked litter along the footpath from the school to the village, classes from 2nd - 4th did the school car-park and sportsfield and the junior classes did the school grounds. It was a great combined effort.
